Please join us May 1 to hear from ALS survivor and advocate, Elizabeth Grandbois. Elizabeth is a former Registered Nurse/ Nurse Practitioner and has worked for over 18 years specializing in Primary Health Care. In 1997 Elizabeth was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), a progressive fatal neuromuscular disease.
In 2000, she founded 'Elizabeth’s Concert of Hope Foundation' and over 9 years, produced 17 concerts from Vancouver to Newfoundland raising over $2.5 million for ALS awareness, research and patient services. The concerts brought Canadians together in celebration and the gift of music was given for those suffering with ALS.
Elizabeth sat as Vice Chair of the Accessibility Advisory Council for Ontario and as a member of the Advisory Council for ALS Canada.
Awards: On April 15 2009, Elizabeth received an Honorary PhD from McMaster University. In 2007, she was inducted into the Terry Fox Hall of Fame and has received numerous other awards for her achievements including the Governor General Award for Meritorious Service, Outstanding Award for Volunteerism from the Government of Ontario, the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship, Paul Harris International Fellowship Award, the Queen’s Jubilee Medal, Edmond Butler Award from ALS Canada, and Halton Woman of the Year Award.
This summer Elizabeth will roll her way on "The Walk for ALS Canada" June 22/24

Jane Kierstead is a breast cancer survivor who joined Knot A Breast Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Team in 2019 after completing treatment. She joined the Knot A Breast Board in 2021 and has had the privilege of serving in the role of Chair for the past two years. She is joining us today to talk about the rich history of Knot A Breast within our community and the benefits of exercise after cancer.
