On March 15, 2023 The Rotary Club of Hamilton AM was pleased to welcome Nevine Nassa who gave a virtual presentation.  Her topic was an International Project on a marginalized community in Egypt called the Zabaleen. They are Cairo's garbage collectors, landless peasants who migrated to Cairo from Upper Egypt in the 1940's.
This community literally lives on the rubbish collected.  They have abhorrent living conditions with absence of all basis needs- for example no sanitation!  For a living, they rely on household garbage collection and recycling.

The Goal of the Roota Project is to Improve their standard of living and objectives were 1, Education and 2. Improving income. For adults they provided a Condensed Literacy Program and scholarships and for Children they provided a Pre-School and After School program.

For more detail on these programs, please see the following PowerPoint Presentation.
