On Tuesday, September 14 several Hamilton AM Rotary members gathered at Dumas Verdes restaurant to reminisce and toast to the memory of two members recently passed.  Many thanks to club member, John Mokrycke who organized this on short notice.

Dez Miklos (February 13, 1945 - August 19, 2021) was a founding member of the Hamilton AM club. He had a fascinating life starting with escaping from Hungary at the age of 11 and emigrating to Canada with his family in 1957.  He had a career in the hotel industry including a stint in Frobisher Bay where he was a founding member of the local Rotary club.  Eventually he relocated to Hamilton where he become well known as a driving instructor and creator of curriculum for truck and school bus training.  He was particularly concerned about helping seniors learn to drive defensively!  He passed away in August at the age of 75.  If desired, donations in Dez's name can be made to the Salvation Army Mountain Citadel, Hamilton.

Also to be celebrated at this event was the life and accomplishments of club Past-President, Brian Tisdale (September 14, 1950 - September 1, 2021).  Brian was President during Rotary year 2010 - 2011 and many will remember his ruthless efficiency during meetings and great use of self-deprecation and sarcasm - no one was exempt, including himself.

Brian was very community minded and sat on several community boards and committees, most recently Rygiel Supports for Community Living.  He was the man who brought high impact "Slushies with Vodka" to the Hamilton AM famed BBQ Auction events each August!  Hi presence at Rotary events will be missed.
If desired, donations in Brian's name can be made to Autism Canada.
