Hamilton AM Rotary BBQ

in reference to our 25th Annual BBQ and Auction

This past Friday night the Hamilton AM Rotary Club held their annual Charity Auction Barbecue. The setting this year was the idyllic farm property of the gracious Gord and Linda Thompson, in Flamborough Ontario.

Although we have attended this annual charity auction/barbecue for several years now, this year was particularly enjoyable. The primary cause was as always, very worthy – a new playground and sports area for Dr. J. Edgar Davey School in Hamilton.

The school and playground are scheduled to celebrate the new play space on September 8, 2010. An event worth celebrating in what is one of the poorest neighbourhoods in the city, and one that will hopefully make the lives of the local children who attend, a little more enjoyable.

Both the silent and live auction portions of the evening were as lively as previous years, and the large crowd (approximately 400) ensured the event was a very successful fundraiser. The food (catered by Carmen’s of Hamilton) and (free) drink was as always plentiful and tasty.

A standout of this year’s BBQ was the entertainment – a gifted violinist by the name of Grenville Pinto. Typically dinner music at these events has just been background noise. Grenville’s artistic take on everything from rock & roll to classical music, transformed the event into a musical treat.
